My gorgeous little bump helped me to earn 17 medals before things became just too uncomfortable to continue running.
At roughly six months pregnant I reluctantly hung up my running trainers, worried about how I was going to burn some energy and maintain some level of fitness in a comfortable way.
My partner is a firefighter and came home from work recently with an exercise bike which he’s managed to borrow from the station. We cleaned it and set it up in the living room, next to the armchair facing the TV, and it’s become a lifeline. I can cycle at a leisurely pace and do just ten minutes if it suits; and I don’t have to worry about my active-wear no longer fitting me! The exercise bike is the perfect way to feel like I’m staying fit and healthy, whilst sitting down, and I’ll definitely continue to use it in the future!
When COVID-19 lock-down happened in March, I was classified as high-risk of catching the Corona Virus due to being heavily pregnant and asthmatic, so started quarantining and working from home full-time. The weather has been surprisingly warm and I’m making the most of the daily hour-long exercise allowance by going for long walks in the sun every lunch-break. I took part in two virtual walking events – the London Landmarks (renamed the ‘Local Landmarks’ due to the switch from a physical event to a virtual one) and the Richmond RunFest AirMile. I just completed the NHS 5K challenge by walking at almost eight months pregnant, and I make it my mission to get out and about in the fresh air every day. So although I’m no longer able to run, my mental health isn’t suffering at all and I feel great!
I also treated myself to a new pair of limited-edition Brooks Launch 7 trainers on my birthday (today!) as something to look forward to using once I’ve given birth in May. They’re absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to wear them! I also used this as an opportunity to have a clear-out of existing running shoes, and have very sadly recycled my Brooks Ravenna 8s and Glycerin 14s.
So with less than a month to go until my due date.. Watch this space! 🙂
